Peirce Mill was built in the 1820's, and operated commercially until 1897. The United States Government acquired the mill as part of Rock Creek Park in 1892. Currently the mill is not operating. It is being preserved and ultimately will be made operable again when sufficient funding for repairs is made available. Until then, Peirce Mill remain's open to the public as a museum and ranger contact station. Peirce Mill is on the National Register of Historic Places. read more...

Mount Rainier National Park is anticipating an early spring opening this year although a spring snow storm has delayed the original opening date for Chinook & Cayuse Passes. The park remains open with normal winter closures with the following exceptions: Westside and Ricksecker Roads are now open but may close due to snowfall. Due to record low snowfall Paradise snowplay is closed for the season and snowshoe walks are cancelled. THE PARK REMAINS OPEN to snowshoeing, snow boarding and cross-country skiing where snow levels permit. read more...
